  • Yes, all Erikson students are required to take the online course: Academic Integrity. That course is designed to help you avoid plagiarism throughout your academic journey at Erikson.
  • You can also schedule a meeting for 1:1 academic support with our Doctoral Fellow here: ASC appointment or submit your paper to the ASC at asc@erikson.edu. If you are concerned about your work too closely resembling the work of another author, then you need to clearly ask the ASC staff person to review that specific portion of your paper for that specific purpose. The ASC will not penalize you for plagiarism if you are looking for feedback or assistance before turning your paper into your professor. We will provide feedback to guide you away from accidental plagiarism. It will be up to you to revise your paper based off the ASC’s feedback to ensure you are turning in your own work. The ASC is not responsible for checking your paper for every incidence of plagiarism and is not responsible for any plagiarized work submitted. See the ASC website for more information about Erikson’s Academic Integrity policy and resources about avoiding plagiarism: https://library.erikson.edu/ASC/avoidingplagiarism
  • In general, in order to avoid plagiarism, you need to use your own words as much as possible. If you are using the words of another author, you need to make sure you cite them appropriately by either paraphrasing their words (and citing them in text and on your reference page) or using direct quotes, the author’s last name, the year, and the page number (and citing them in text and on your reference page).
